Aquarium Window Renovation (2-Week Project)
At the Digital Wild Salmon Center, the experience is everything. Visitors come to witness the life of wild salmon up close, to connect with a species that defines Norway’s natural heritage. But over time, that connection had started to fade.
After 25 years, the aquarium viewing panels were no longer transparent. Scratches, wear, and aging materials had turned what was once a vivid underwater window into a blurred barrier. Without intervention, the center risked losing its ability to deliver its core experience and ultimately, its future.
ClearRock was brought in with a clear mission: restore not just the windows, but the experience itself.
In just two weeks, our team carried out a complete transformation.
Full Window Polishing
We began with a full restoration of the acrylic panels through precision polishing. Years of surface damage were carefully removed, layer by layer, revealing the original clarity beneath.
This was not just about aesthetics, it was about bringing the underwater world back into sharp focus. As the clarity returned, so did the ability for visitors to truly observe the salmon in their natural movement.

Removal of Existing Sealing
Once visibility was restored, we addressed the integrity of the installation. The original sealing materials, worn and aged, were carefully removed.
This delicate process required both technical expertise and control, ensuring that neither the acrylic panels nor the surrounding structure were compromised. It was a critical step in preparing the installation for the decades ahead.
Concrete Protection Coating
To secure the environment long-term, we applied a specialized protective coating to the surrounding concrete.
This layer acts as a barrier against moisture and wear, reinforcing the structure and ensuring that the restored clarity of the panels is matched by the durability of the entire installation.

Final Result
What was once a fading, opaque barrier is now a crystal-clear window into the world of wild salmon once again.
The 25-year-old panels have been fully revitalized, not replaced but reborn. Visitors can now experience the salmon in sharp detail, just as the center originally intended.
More than a renovation, this project restored the core of the Digital Wild Salmon Center experience, ensuring it can continue to educate, inspire, and connect people with nature for at least another 25 years.
